(KF), is excited to announce that it has received a research grant from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the German federal fusion development program \u201cFunding Program Fusion 2040\u201d (contract number: 13F1010A-C).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"538\" src=\"https:\/\/kyotofusioneering.com\/kfwp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/eyecatch_Germany-Grant-1024x538.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2724\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyotofusioneering.com\/kfwp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/eyecatch_Germany-Grant-1024x538.png 1024w, https:\/\/kyotofusioneering.com\/kfwp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/eyecatch_Germany-Grant-300x158.png 300w, https:\/\/kyotofusioneering.com\/kfwp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/eyecatch_Germany-Grant-768x403.png 768w, https:\/\/kyotofusioneering.com\/kfwp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/eyecatch_Germany-Grant.png 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In partnership with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Argentum Vivum Solutions GmbH (AVS), the KaLiAS project seeks to solve a critical challenge for the operation of fusion power plants: supplying sufficient enriched lithium to achieve tritium self-sufficiency. Naturally occurring lithium contains only 7.6% of the lighter isotope Lithium-6, but lithium with an increased fraction of this isotope is required for breeding blankets (learn more about the crucial role of breeding blankets <a href=\"https:\/\/kyotofusioneering.com\/en\/news\/2024\/04\/18\/2271\">here<\/a>) to enable tritium generation that can sustain the tritium burn-up. Future fusion power plants and demonstration machines are expected to require large amounts of enriched lithium that exceed current supplies. The KaLiAS project aims to develop a scalable, cost-effective process for Lithium enrichment using the innovative ICOMAX method developed at KIT.
