Kyoto Fusioneering Ltd (KF), a company specializing in engineering fusion energy plants, is pleased to announce the following changes to its management structure, effective 17 December 2024.
1. New Management Structure
Name | New Position | Former Position |
Taka NAGAO | Co-Founder | Co-Founder, Director and Chairman |
Takashi IMAI | Director and Chief Corporate Management Officer | Corporate Auditor |
Mitsuhiro NAGATA | Corporate Auditor (Note: New Hire) | – |
2. Rationale for the Change
Kyoto Fusioneering has been implementing a phased restructuring of its management system since October 2023 to ensure a solid foundation for sustainable growth on a global scale. As the pace of fusion energy development continues to accelerate, we remain committed to strengthening and advancing our technology development through this new management structure. Additionally, this restructuring ensures that, while our continued growth has greatly benefitted from the systems first put in place by our founding team, the organization can grow beyond its initial management structure.
Taka Nagao, who is stepping down from his position as Director and Chairman, will continue to drive growth from within as a Co-Founder and shareholder through his contribution to key decision-making processes. Going forward, he plans to place greater focus on his activities as an individual entrepreneur by expanding his efforts to support startups and promoting initiatives in this area.
Takashi Imai, in his new position as Director and Chief Corporate Management Officer (CCMO), will oversee the finance and corporate management departments previously managed by Kiyoshi Seko, Chief Operating Officer (COO). This change will provide Kiyoshi Seko with the opportunity to focus more on the company’s business operations, including spearheading the progress of the FAST Program, a key fusion energy demonstration project with KF acting as the project leader. With his extensive experience as an executive in multiple companies and his significant contributions since KF’s founding, both as the head of the finance and corporate management departments in the early years and subsequently as Corporate Auditor, Takashi Imai will leverage his expertise to strengthen our management structure and governance.
Mitsuhiro Nagata, the newly appointed Corporate Auditor, brings extensive experience in investment banking and financial management at both domestic and international firms, along with a strong background in corporate legal affairs gained through his legal practice. Additionally, he has served as an external auditor and director for publicly listed companies, where his in-depth expertise and practical knowledge has been highly valued. Given these qualifications, we believe Mitsuhiro Nagata is well-suited to provide audits related to the execution of duties by our directors in his capacity as Corporate Auditor.
3. Mitsuhiro Nagata – KF’s New Corporate Auditor
After beginning his career at a Japanese bank, Mitsuhiro Nagata pursued an MBA at a US business school and then transitioned to working at a US investment bank. Until 2004, he oversaw investment banking operations in New York and Tokyo, primarily at US investment banks, serving clients from Europe, Japan and the US. During his career, he managed M&A, corporate restructuring, fundraising, securitization, IPOs, derivatives, and provided advisory services for investor relations and credit ratings.
Since 2006, he has provided a broad range of legal services as a practicing attorney, including general civil and criminal matters, while specializing in corporate legal affairs with a focus on the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act. He has also served as an external officer (independent director and external auditor) at multiple publicly listed companies on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
