Kyoto Fusioneering (KF) and Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on the acceleration of fusion energy development. Through the partnership, KF and CNL plan to collaborate on the development and demonstration of fuel cycle systems essential for the safe and stable operation of fusion energy plants. The two parties plan to share scientific information, equipment, and technologies. Additionally, they will explore the possibility of other joint research projects and exchange personnel to facilitate knowledge transfer.
KF is a leading fusion plant technology provider that is focused, in part, on developing advanced and comprehensive fusion fuel cycle systems that involve separating and circulating hydrogen isotopes, such as deuterium, to fuel fusion power devices safely and efficiently. CNL, on the other hand, is a leading research institute for fuel cycle systems involving hydrogen isotopes, with extensive experience, technology, and related equipment for their handling and management.
Through their collaboration, KF and CNL will be able to leverage their respective expertise and resources to promote demonstrations using necessary equipment and develop innovative solutions that will further advance the field of fusion energy.
The partnership may include the use of new testing facilities to support fusion fuel cycle research, which would be located at the Chalk River Laboratories in Ontario, Canada, a nuclear research campus that is managed by CNL. KF and CNL will continue to collaborate on joint research and development discussions on the project details, while working towards the ultimate energy solution – fusion energy.
