For our very first blog post of 2026, we’d like to introduce who we are today—through numbers.
*All statistics reflect our status as of January 1, 2026.
We previously published a blog post in Japanese on this same theme in May 2023, where we shared data such as employee age ranges and nationalities. Since then, many new employees have joined our team, and we have launched new offices in the US and Germany. Let’s start by taking a look at the big picture.
A Growing Global Company

Six years since our founding in 2019, KF now operates in five countries worldwide, with a team of more than 160 members.
In addition, our Series C funding round was closed in September 2025. As a result, our total capital raised to date has reached JPY 16.2 billion.
Headcount by Division (Total Employees: 164)

Looking at our organizational breakdown, it’s clear that KF is an engineering-driven company that leverages our fusion-related technologies. More than half of our employees belong to technical divisions.
We have two technical divisions:
- Plant Technology Division, mainly responsible for the development of fusion blanket and thermal cycle systems, fusion fuel cycle systems and so on.
- Plasma Heating Division, which focuses on the development of gyrotron systems
For more details, please visit the Technology page on our website.
Nationalities Within the Company

When we published our previous blog on this topic in May 2023, we had 16 non-Japanese employees (19%) and since then the number of international team members has increased to 34 (20%).
There are a number of international employees who work at our head office in Japan where English is frequently used in day-to-day communication.
Where Do Employees Work in Japan?

*The figures are based on our internal Commuting Regulations
Although we are “Kyoto” Fusioneering, the majority of our employees are based at our head office in Tokyo. That said, depending on project needs, some members from the Tokyo office work on-site at development locations such as our Kyoto Research Center, our R&D facility in Kyoto where we are developing UNITY-1, and Amagasaki in Hyogo where gyrotron systems are set up and tested.
In addition, many employees take advantage of our Flextime System and combine remote work and on-site work to create an efficient and flexible working style.
While remote meetings are common among team members working at different locations or from home, we also value opportunities to meet face to face. One example is our global event, “KF’s Annual Townhall”, held in person last October, which allows employees to connect directly with one another.

Number of Events Attended in 2025

In 2025, we took part in a wide range of events, from domestic and international academic conferences on fusion energy to exhibitions and industry gatherings. Through these events, we benefited from invaluable opportunities to engage with people from many different industries and professional backgrounds.
Employees who participated in these events said that attending conferences and presenting the results of technological developments provided really meaningful opportunities to share their work.
Highlights from these events are shared on our blog and official social media accounts such as LinkedIn, so feel free to explore our past posts.
Number of Employees Featured in Behind the Fusion Scene

On our website, we publish interview articles under the series “Behind the Fusion Scene.”
Since launching this series in 2022, we have interviewed 39 employees across the technical, business, and corporate divisions—not only in Japan, but also at our overseas locations.
This series showcases the diverse and unique backgrounds of our employees currently working in the fusion industry and explores the motivations that drive them. Take a look at the archive and get to know our people more closely
In 2026, we will continue pushing forward toward the realization of fusion energy.
We hope you’ll continue following our journey!
