Kyoto Fusioneering Ltd. is pleased to announce that Mr. Norio Murakami, former Vice President of Google U.S. Headquarters and President of Google Japan, is appointed as Advisor of the company, effective today, July 1, 2022. Mr. Murakami brings an immense experience in creating long term strategies for global business growth.

Mr. Murakami started his career as a system engineer at Hitachi Electronics, Ltd. and was involved in many projects related to artificial intelligence (AI) in its dawning era at Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) Japan and the Center for Artificial Intelligence Technology at DEC’s U.S. headquarters. In 2003, he was appointed Vice President of Google’s U.S. headquarters and President and Representative Director of Google Japan. Before and after joining Google he played an active role transforming the global tech industry. Mr. Murakami shares the same excitement and belief with KF regarding increasing the competitiveness of KF’s fusion reactor-related technologies and expertise, as well as our goal to realize the ultimate clean energy for humankind and achieve a carbon neutral society. 

As Advisor, Mr. Murakami will support KF to enhance business infrastructure and promote the expansion of KF’s business globally. He will be an important addition to the leadership team as KF continues to establish key technologies for the deployment of fusion energy.

Biography of Norio Murakami

Born in Oita Prefecture, Mr. Murakami graduated from Kyoto University in 1970 and started his career as a system engineer for minicomputers at Hitachi Electronics Corporation. In 1986, he moved to DEC’s Artificial Intelligence Technology Center in Massachusetts, U.S.A. In 1991, he returned to DEC Japan and became Director and General Manager of the Marketing Division. In 2003, he was appointed Vice President of Google’s U.S. headquarters and President and Representative Director of Google Japan, and became Honorary Chairman in 2009. After retiring in 2011, he established the Norio Murakami Office. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Kyoto University and is currently a professor at Osaka Metropolitan University Graduate School of Urban Management, a visiting professor at GLOCOM, a visiting professor at Osaka Institute of Technology, and a counselor at the University of Aizu.
